This consultation seeks views on proposals for how we should move to achieve the vision set out in the 14-19 Education and Skills White Paper, of a qualifications system in which every young person can prepare themselves through education and training to make a success of their life.
Some 51 partnerships of schools, colleges and employers across England have been given the green light by the government to teach the new Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies from 2009.
Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls said that the Extended Diplomas would be available from 2011 and will be designed to extend each of the 17 Diploma lines.
The value of the Government‘s new Diplomas as a progression route enabling pupils to get into Universities and colleges was confirmed today by both UCAS and the QCA.
There are many types of activities where a business or employer can get involved with the delivery of the new Diploma. This new leaflet for the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies provides some examples. The list is not exhaustive, so we encourage people with more ideas or examples of their existing work with schools and colleges to contact the Diploma team to help encourage and inspire more to get involved.
The Year of Food and Farming is a campaign that aims to provide children with direct experience of visits to farming and food businesses, growing and cooking food. It will run from September 2007 to July 2008. There are lots of simple ways to get involved in the Year, including:
- Opening your farm or business to schools
- Offering to give talks to schools about your food or farming business
- Supporting a school with a growing activity, by providing resources or giving hands-on advice
- Providing a school with recipe kits and ingredients
If you already host school visits, or work with schools in other ways, or would like to for the first time, then register on the website at www.yearoffoodandfarming.org.uk.
