The Diploma Development Partnership

 

The Diploma for Environmental and Land-based Studies is being developed and supported by a partnership of five Sector Skills Councils:

 

  • Lantra

  • ConstructionSkills

  • Energy & Utility Skills

  • Improve

  • SkillsActive

 

The content of the Diploma is wide-ranging and calls upon the specialist knowledge and networks of all six organisations. Elements of animal and plant nutrition, growth and breeding, working practices, environmental influences, sustainable development, green skills, forestry, food manufacturing, the built environment, land and aquatic conservation, environmental monitoring, and energy sources and uses are all to be explored within the curriculum. 

 

Lantra

As the Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based sector, Lantra represents the interests of over 230,000 business, 1 million workers and 500,000 volunteers in 17 related industries which cover three broad clusters:  

 

  • land management and production

  • animal health and welfare 

  • environmental industries  

 

Lantra is leading the project to deliver the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies in partnership with five other Sector Skills Councils. 

 

Lantra's aim is to raise the level of skills, knowledge and enterprise of everyone working in the environmental and land-based sector and ensure that businesses can access the support they need to make a real difference to what matters most – profitability, productivity and raising customer satisfaction.

Construction Skills 

Within the scope of the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies, ConstructionSkills covers hard landscaping, fencing and operation of plant and machinery together with a shared interest in land conservation and sustainability. 

 

ConstructionSkills is a partnership between  CITB-­ConstructionSkills, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and CITB Northe rn Irel and (CITB NI) and as such covers the whole industry across the UK, from craft through to the professional occupations and all of the issues that the industry faces. This is a huge undertaking. Construction is the UK's biggest employer and biggest exporter.  

 

ConstructionSkills’ role is to enable employers to change the way that education and training is delivered and funded, so that schools, colleges and universities provide the skills training employers want.

Energy & Utility Skills 

Within the scope of the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies, Energy & Utility Skills covers waste management and has an interest in renewable energy sources, sustainability and recycling.  

 

Energy & Utility Skills is the Sector Skills Council for the electricity, gas, waste management and water industries. Employer-led, it aims to identify employers' skills needs and provide effective solutions to improve business performance.  

 

Energy & Utility Skills is involved in work in three diploma development partnerships, seeing this work as providing new and worthwhile opportunities for students and contributing to developing the workforce of the future.

Improve

Improve is the Sector Skills Council for Food and Drink Manufacturing. Their mission is to drive up skills for profit, by working with everyone connected to the food and drink industry including employers, trade associations and individual employees. 

 

Within the scope of the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies, Improve covers food manufacturing.

SkillsActive 

SkillsActive is the Sector Skills Council for the active leisure and learning sector, working with employers to develop the standards that vocational qualifications across the sector are based on. While addressing the needs of the UK’s workforce, SkillsActive are charged with leading the skills and productivity drive within the Sport and Recreation, Health and Fitness, Playwork, The Outdoors and Caravan industries…..Shaping Skills for the Future.

 

Within the scope of the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based Studies, SkillsActive covers ground care at sports venues, camping and caravanning hospitality and equestrian sports.
